Painterly and Scenic Wallpaper
Painterly scenic wallpaper turns a wall into a view. Illustrated landscapes, garden scenes and countryside vistas are brushed in soft focus, borrowing from traditional mural painting and the storytelling of toile, so the room gains trees, rivers and distance it did not have before.
Scion's Falling Foss, from Oakham, began as artwork for a jacquard weave and was repainted into a large-scale scene with a mural landscape feel, telling a story of slow walks past waterfalls. Nina Campbell's Honfleur offers La Quintinie, a modern toile of a garden with a tiled-roof hut, potted topiary and a parasol. Coordonné paint beautifully in this way, from the indigo hunting party of Maharaja in Kala to the slender trees of Cartuja in Sevilla. Tres Tintas' Entre Luces takes the idea somewhere dreamier, with desert dunes and hanging moons.
These designs are at their best in a bedroom or on a dining room wall, where there is time to take in the detail.
