Sanderson Design Group
The Sanderson Design Group brings six British houses together: Sanderson, Morris & Co, Zoffany, Harlequin, Clarke & Clarke and Scion, from royal-warrant florals to Scion's joyful prints.
The story
Six British houses
The Sanderson Design Group brings together six of the best-known names in British decoration. At its heart is Sanderson itself, founded in London in 1860 and holder of a Royal Warrant since 1924, which took Morris & Co under its wing in 1940, and with it the work of William Morris.
Around those two heritage houses sit Zoffany, born from the restoration of historic wallpapers; Harlequin, the colourist, founded in 1960; Clarke & Clarke, the great collaborator, founded in 1999; and Scion, the joyful and more affordable youngest, created in 2012. Six very different characters, one archive of remarkable depth, and here, for the first time, all six side by side.
The most English house of all
Sanderson
Sanderson's hand-drawn botanicals and blowsy florals, its birds and trailing leaves, came to define a gentle, countryside-inflected Englishness that has never really gone out of style.
The firm has supplied the Royal Residences since 1924, and today its archive runs to some seventy thousand designs and printing blocks.

Sanderson: The Most English House of All
For more than a century and a half, Sanderson has been the very definition of English style, royal warrant and all. Which makes it all the more delicious that it began by importing French wallpaper.

Beauty, made properly
Morris & Co
William Morris founded the firm in 1861 on a then-heretical idea: that things should be made properly, by hand, and that beauty was not a luxury for the rich but something everyone deserved.
His patterns were drawn from close observation of the garden and the hedgerow. The firm passed to Sanderson in 1940, and the group still guards Morris's original logbooks.

William Morris: The Revolutionary Who Wallpapered Britain's Drawing Rooms
Britain's most beloved heritage patterns were designed by a fire-breathing socialist who despised cheap mass production and believed beauty should belong to everyone. More than 160 years on, William Morris feels less like history than prophecy.

The painter's eye
Zoffany
Zoffany is named after Johan Zoffany, court painter to George III, whose conversation pieces recorded the richly furnished rooms of his day in exquisite detail.
The company began in the early 1980s with an act of rescue, recreating lost historic wallpapers from surviving fragments, and that refinement runs through its damasks, velvets and painterly prints today.

A coat of many colours
Harlequin
Founded in 1960, Harlequin has always been the bold, contemporary one of the family: quick to seize on a new idea, among the first in the industry to embrace digital printing, and never happier than with a full and fearless palette.
It treats colour quite seriously, as one of the most powerful tools in decorating, bound up with mood and with the way we live.

The great collaborator
Clarke & Clarke
Founded in 1999 by Emma and Julian Clarke in the north west of England, Clarke & Clarke grew into one of the country's most widely used design houses on a refreshingly unstuffy idea: stylish, versatile and good value.
It collaborates like no one else, from an affordable range of William Morris designs to the hand-drawn lynxes and fantastical jungles of Emma J Shipley.

The joyful house
Scion
Scion is the joyful, more affordable house of the family: bright colour, playful pattern and cheerful checks and stripes, at prices that make it easy to change a room on a whim.
Created in 2012 on the simple idea that interiors need not be serious to be good, its designs are drawn by a small studio in Leicestershire and printed in the factory next door.
