A scion is a young shoot grafted onto an established plant, and it is a fitting name. Scion is the youngest member of the Sanderson Design Group, the British design family that also includes Sanderson, Morris & Co and Zoffany. Created in 2012, it arrived with a cheerful, simple idea: that interiors need not be serious to be good. Its designs are drawn by a small studio team in Leicestershire and printed in a factory next door, so every paper is designed and made in Britain.

Scion's look draws on the clean-lined optimism of 1950s Britain and Scandinavia: stylised florals, confident geometrics and a zesty, uplifting palette. And then there is Mr Fox, the long, lean and faintly smirking fox who became one of the most recognisable motifs in the modern British home. He appears in Garden of Eden, recoloured in fresh contemporary shades, while Midi Fox sits somewhere between Mr Fox and Little Fox in scale. Guess Who? is a light-hearted collection of animals, stripes and florals that works from nursery right through childhood.

Our bestselling Scion collection is Oakham, where flowing floral and leaf trails sit beside the playful silhouettes of matchsticks and the gentle wiggle of a meandering riverbed. The newest is Pomona, inspired by abundant fruit gardens, with lively prints such as Poppy Pod and Ditsy Daisy that suit kitchens, dining rooms and feature walls.

For graphic pattern, Lohko takes its name from the Finnish for block and is full of bold, asymmetric geometrics, joined by the more recent Going Lohko. Noukku and Levande bring a Scandi warmth, with naively drawn trees, hedgerows, florals and Barnie Owl. Zanzibar celebrates expressionism with hand-drawn motifs in pastel tones and metallic highlights, while Japandi blends modern rustic Scandi style with Japanese aesthetics. Esala, Spirit and Soul and Melinki complete the range.

Scion is not only for the nursery: a grinning fox or a bold geometric is just as much fun in a cloakroom, a kitchen or a home office, and many designs have a matching Scion fabric. For more on the brand, read our guide, Scion: Here Comes Mr Fox.
