Good to know

How much fabric do I need?

It depends on the window or furniture and on the pattern repeat, which is given on every product page. Your curtain maker or upholsterer will give you an exact figure; order it all at once so it comes from the same batch and arrives as one continuous length.

Can I order a sample?

Yes. Most fabrics have a sample, and up to 6 samples are delivered free. Samples show the colour and the weave, though not always the full pattern repeat.

Can fabric be returned?

Fabric is cut to order for you, so it can't be cancelled or returned. That's why we always suggest ordering a sample first.

How long will delivery take?

Every product page shows its own delivery time and an estimated arrival date. Delivery is free on UK mainland orders over £100; Northern Ireland, the Highlands and islands are charged at checkout.

Do you offer trade accounts?

Yes, for interior designers, decorators and commercial projects. Find out about trade accounts.

Upholstery Fabric

Upholstery fabric has to take daily use without flattening, pilling or rubbing through. Heavier weaves, velvets and chenilles generally wear best, and every fabric on this page carries its maker's rating for upholstery. Use the filters to narrow by grade if a piece needs a contract or severe contract fabric.

Clarke & Clarke offers a wide choice, including Allure and Urban. Sanderson has Dorton Velvets, Harlequin brings texture with Sgraffito II and embroidery with Zamora, and Villa Nova adds characterful weaves in Morandi. Morris & Co offers Wardle Velvets, and Romo has Aubin and Zephi.

The rub test result, shown in the product details, is the most useful single guide to how a fabric will wear: a higher figure suits a family sofa, while a lighter rating is fine for an occasional chair or a headboard. Look at composition too, and think about the piece itself, as tight upholstery and loose covers ask different things of a fabric. Your upholsterer can advise on quantities and pattern placement. A sample is always worth ordering first, so you can see the colour and feel the handle in your own room.
