Checkerboard wallpaper is the simplest pattern there is: two colours, equal squares, nothing else. Scale changes it completely. A large black and white check is graphic and faintly disco, while the same grid in oatmeal or sage behaves almost like a texture. Good in a cloakroom, a utility or a hallway where you want some nerve.
