Velvet Fabric
Velvet brings depth and a quiet sense of luxury to a room. Its pile catches the light and shifts in shade as you move around it, which gives even a plain colour real weight. Our velvets run from crisp cottons to plush viscose weaves, in plains, stripes, embroideries and prints.
Clarke & Clarke have the largest range. Allure is a modern velvet effect in a wide spread of colours, Urban prints bold abstract and geometric designs onto tactile velvet and uses cut velvet blocks on Kupka, and Whitworth offers tailored velvet stripes in several widths. Sanderson designed Dorton Velvets to pair with their own palette, and Icaria and Boho Velvets includes Icaria, woven from two fibres so the dye takes differently for a streaked effect.
Morris & Co bring the archive to velvet in Wardle Velvets. Wardle Velvet itself comes in twelve colours to coordinate with the Morris & Co. paint range, Artichoke Velvet carries J.H. Dearle's boldly scaled artichoke heads of 1898, and Sunflower Caffoy Velvet takes a wallpaper of 1879 onto a deep pile. Zoffany add a refined matt Cotton Velvet in Luxury Plains, and Harlequin print distressed textures in Leonida Velvets.
For the softer handle of a velvet's cousin, browse chenille fabric, or see the unpatterned velvets in plain fabric and the stitched ones in embroidered fabric. Our guide to Clarke & Clarke on Decorating Notes tells the story behind the brand.
