Trellis Wallpaper
Trellis wallpaper is defined by its repeating lattice, a framework of diamonds, ogees or interlinked lines that brings balance and symmetry to a wall. Drawn formally it feels classic and composed; drawn loosely, with flowers and vines wound through it, it becomes something altogether more romantic. Either way it is one of the most versatile patterns there is.
Laura Ashley does trellis particularly well. Westminster, a refined trellis first introduced in 1989, and Pinford Trellis, drawn after a vintage print with sprigs of flowers and berries, are among our bestsellers, alongside designs in Volume Two. Nina Campbell's Signature and Honfleur collections trail delicate leaves into an elegant ogee, and Colefax and Fowler's Ashdown includes Roussillon, a leaf trellis taken from an original French document.
For a more contemporary lattice, Harlequin's Momentum 2 adds metallics and beading, and Galerie's Italian Style includes Cancello, a Moroccan trellis with an iridescent finish. Boråstapeter's Nordic Folk collection winds trellises with delicate flowers inspired by traditional embroidery.
Trellis sits naturally beside classic and traditional wallpaper and small prints. A floral trellis also belongs with trailing leaves wallpaper, and the cleaner versions with geometric wallpaper. Our Decorating Notes guide Small but Mighty: Small Print Wallpaper has more ideas.
