Good to know

How much fabric do I need?

It depends on the window or furniture and on the pattern repeat, which is given on every product page. Your curtain maker or upholsterer will give you an exact figure; order it all at once so it comes from the same batch and arrives as one continuous length.

Can I order a sample?

Yes. Most fabrics have a sample, and up to 6 samples are delivered free. Samples show the colour and the weave, though not always the full pattern repeat.

Can fabric be returned?

Fabric is cut to order for you, so it can't be cancelled or returned. That's why we always suggest ordering a sample first.

How long will delivery take?

Every product page shows its own delivery time and an estimated arrival date. Delivery is free on UK mainland orders over £100; Northern Ireland, the Highlands and islands are charged at checkout.

Do you offer trade accounts?

Yes, for interior designers, decorators and commercial projects. Find out about trade accounts.

Sheer Fabric

Sheer fabric filters daylight rather than blocking it. It softens a window, gives privacy from the street and lets a room stay bright, which makes it lovely on its own in a bedroom or bathroom, or layered behind heavier curtains. This page covers voiles, muslins and fine open weaves, many of them in wide widths that make full curtains easier to make up.

Sanderson offers a dedicated range in Sanderson Sheers. Harlequin has a wide choice across Sheers 1, Momentum Sheers and Piazza Voiles. Villa Nova, Romo and Black Edition add textured and patterned sheers with a more decorative character.

Sheers usually look best with generous fullness, so allow more fabric than you would for a lined curtain. Because light passes through, the weave and any pattern show most clearly against a window, so a sample held up to the glass is the best way to judge it, ideally at different times of day. Check the width, composition and care notes in the product details, as these vary a good deal between designs.

Browse curtain fabric and blind fabric, see linen fabric for a heavier natural option, or read Texture vs Pattern on layering.
