Thibaut Wallpaper

Founded in New York in 1886 by Richard Thibaut, who began by selling wallcoverings door to door from a horse-drawn cart, Thibaut is the oldest continuously operating wallpaper house in America. Its papers have hung everywhere from mid-century sitting rooms to the White House, and the bound sample book Richard devised is still how the whole industry shows its wares today.

Thibaut is known for joyful colour and a confident mix of pattern. Summer House brings flourishing florals, clean geometrics and retro batik prints, and Eden takes a whimsical approach, with painterly ikats, scenic gardens and embroideries in an optimistic palette. The new Fairhaven celebrates the Arts and Crafts movement in watercolour and block print, Yutori is inspired by the quiet beauty of Japanese nature and craft, and Palm Grove is a lush oasis of palm leaves and botanicals. Chestnut Hill offers toiles, damasks and floral motifs with a nod to early European style. Dynasty is shaped by chinoiserie and Asian influence, from the pavilions and willows of Asian Scenic to the massed peonies of Honshu.

Thibaut is also one of the great names in natural wallcoverings. Grasscloth Resource 6 and Grasscloth Resource 7 are woven from raffia, jute, sisal, papyrus and linen, each with the natural variation only a real weave can give. For busy rooms, Texture Resource 8 offers embossed vinyls with the look of natural texture and the strength of performance vinyl, and Modern Resource 4 brings contemporary line work and metallic accents.
