Geometric Wallpaper

Geometric wallpaper is the quickest way to give a room order: a repeat of lines, arcs, diamonds or tiles that holds a wall together rather than decorating it. It works as well in a study as a hallway.

Look for Alvar Aalto’s M.I.T in Scandinavian Designers III by Boråstapeter, Alandalus from the Tiles collection by Coordonné, and Large Ellipse in Grafik by Ohpopsi.

Scale decides the mood: a small repeat reads almost as a texture, a large one as a statement.

Geometric Wallpaper

Geometric wallpaper gives a room order. A repeat of lines, arcs, diamonds or blocks holds a wall together rather than simply decorating it, and scale decides the mood: a small repeat reads almost as a texture, a large one as a statement. It suits a study as happily as a hallway.

The range here is wide. Scion's Lohko collection is clean-lined and easy to live with, its Tocca design stacked like small rows of books for a retro-contemporary feel. Harlequin's Momentum 5 adds shimmer and beading to small-scale geometrics, while Arte's Marqueterie includes Optique, a sisal wallpaper that plays tricks on the eye. For Scandinavian graphics, look at Boråstapeter's Scandinavian Designers III, home to Alvar Aalto's M.I.T, and Ohpopsi's Grafik.

Geometric is a broad family, so it is worth narrowing down. A lattice of diamonds or ogees lives under trellis wallpaper, the zigzag under chevron wallpaper, and the tailored weave under herringbone wallpaper. Softer arcs and fans sit with scallop wallpaper, and the glamour of the 1920s with Art Deco wallpaper.
